• to present the text “I work as a waiter”, to teach the students to say about the work of the waiters; to systematize the students’ knowledge about The Present Simple Tense
• to develop the students’ habits of activity, their skills of hearing, reading

AT THE GREENGROCER’S
Shop assistant: Good – afternoon! Can I help you? What would you like to buy?
Customer: What vegetables have you got?
Shop assistant: There are potatoes, carrots, onions and cabbages.
Customer: How much does the potato cost?
Shop assistant: Their prices are different. From 80 to 100 tenge.
Customer: Where are these potatoes from?
Shop assistant: They are from Kostanai. And these are from Turkestan. They are cheaper. Potatoes of our place are the most expensive, but they are the best.
Customer: Can you weigh 3 kilos of our place’s potato. How much must I pay?
Shop assistant: Three hundred (300). Don’t you want to buy carrots or cabbages?
Customer: Ok, weigh 2 kilos of the best carrots and one big cabage. How much?
Shop assistant: Seven hundred (700)
Customer: Here you are.
Shop assistant: Thank you very much. Good-bye.
Customer: Good-bye.
1. Mother to her son: Nick, take the money and the shopping-bag and go to the baker's.
Nick: What shall I buy, mum?
M.: A loaf of brown bread, a long loaf of white, two buns and biscuits for tea.
N.: Anything else?
M.: Let me see. On your way back drop in to the dairy shop and buy a bottle of milk, half a kilo of hard cheese and a kilo of curds or cottage cheese.
N.: All right, mum. I am off.
2. Aunt Vera to her niece Kate: Kate, it's time to go shopping. Don't forget the money and the shopping-bag.
Kate: What shall I buy, auntie?
A: Go to the butcher’s for some steak and a chicken. On your way back drop in to the grocer's and get a packet of flour and buckwheat.
K.: Very well. I'm ready.

I Work as a Waiter
I work as a waiter at the restaurant "Moscow". I come to at about ten o'clock, dust my tables and chairs, sweep the floor, spread cloths on the tables, put flowers in the vases and set the tables for dinner1. I bring napkins and menu-cards. I put clean covers (spoons, forks and knives) and cruet-sets on each table. The head waiters, waiters and waitresses prepare the restaurant-hall for receiving guests2. At twelve o'clock guests come to dinner. My mates and I serve dinner till five. We recommend table d'hote and a la carte dishes. From five to six we have a dinner break.
Guests come to supper at six and we serve them till eleven. We recommend special dishes. The guests have a good time3. They eat, drink, dance and talk. At midnight they leave the restaurant. I give the cash money to the cashier, take the dirty dishes away and go home. I work every other day. I like my work.
What does the waiter put on the table for dinner every day? He puts clean covers: spoons, forks, knives and cruet sets.
