Warm-up.
Let’s listen to the song: “Money, money, money…” of famous Swedish group ABBA.
Teacher: Dear audience and guests, today we are going to talk about money. What is money in our life? Curse or blessing? Our today’s guests are: a head of the museum - Baltabay Aigyerim, a head of the bank- Mukatay Darkhan, a head of our police station - Aripbay Yeldos, a head of opinion surveys office - Abilova Assem and a children’s writer - Makhambetkul Ademi.
Teacher: - Our first guest would like to make an excursion in the past, when money didn’t exist.
Pupil 1: (head of the museum)
- In our museum there is a good collection of money. (Demonstration of collection) Many years ago money wasn’t used, instead, people had “barter” system. This meant that if a man wanted something he didn’t have, he had to find someone who had it. Then he had to offer him something in exchange and if a man didn’t like what he was offered in exchange, the first man couldn’t get what he needed.
They were first made of either gold or silver. Later people began to use coins made of cheaper metals and then paper money. Due to money trade went easier. Of course, money is blessing . Don’t you agree with me?
Discussion.
Teacher: - Our next guest is the head of opinion surveys office. What interesting opinion surveys did you carry out?
Pupil 2: (a head of opinion surveys office)
- We asked the following question to the students of senior forms in schools:
“Should parents give children pocket money?”
80% of respondents said “yes”.
Listen to the opinion of those who said “yes” on the sound recorder: “Our parents should give us pocket money as we need it to pay fare in the bus and to buy snacks in the school canteen. So, money is blessing”.
20% of respondents said “no”. Opinions on the sound recorder: “It’s very dangerous to have pocket money, because schoolchildren can be blackmailed even by their classmates. In this case money is curse”.
Teacher: - Listen to the opinion of the next guest, children’s writer.
Pupil 3 (children’s writer)
- Don’t forget there are things that are more valuable than money like: love, friendship, respect, intelligence, intercourse, etc. If people devote their life to money save, their life is useless.
Teacher: - Dear Guests, thank you very much for taking the time to share your opinion!
“It’s interesting to know, that …”. (power point presentation)
*In the past, people have used many different things as money. Among them: salt, cocoa beans, grain, cows, shark’s teeth, and precious stones.
*The study of coins is called Numismatics.
*The world’s first paper money appeared in China.
*Shopping was fun in 1900. Women could buy a pair of shoes for just $1!
*Coins usually survive in circulation for about 30 years.
*The 100 dollar note has been the largest denomination of currency in circulation since 1969.
* The legend, "In God We Trust," became a part of the design of United States currency in 1957 and has appeared on all currency since 1963.
*The origin of the dollar sign —$ — has various explanations. Perhaps the most widely accepted is that it is the result of the evolution of the Mexican or Spanish "P’s" for pesos. This theory, derived from a study of old manuscripts, explains that the S gradually came to be written over the P, developing a close equivalent to the $ mark.
Scene.
It was a first year of study at university of the student Maksat. He bought a new jeans, T-shirt, bought fast food everyday during the week. In short, he spent all his money and time for entertainment. Once upon a time he found that he hasn’t some money and he asked to himself:
- “How I will live next time?” And he decided to write a letter to his father in this way:
- Dear Dad, no money, no funny, your sonny. A few days later, father replied:
- Dear Son, so bad, so sad, your dad.
Teacher: - One of our guests today, the head of the bank “Student credit bank”, is going to present a new bank production.
Pupil 4: (the head of the bank)
- Our new bank product is a deposit for schoolchildren, it is called “school”. Pupils, who earn money from participating in intellectual projects, can place it on this deposit and get interests. So, money is blessing.
Teacher: -The following guest is the representative of police.
Pupil 5: (a head of our police station)
- Many crimes are commited because of money. Money is curse.
Questions to the audience.
-What problem showed in scene?
- Do you get pocket money?
- How do you spend your pocket money?
- Do you save money? If so, what are you saving for?
Pay attention to the statement: (on A4 paper)
“There is more valuable than money. You can get more money but you cannot get more time”. How do you understand this statement? Do you know such kind of proverbs in Kazakh language?

Discussion.

Teacher: Let's see what Chinese proverbs say about money. PPT.

Teacher:

Money doesn’t buy happiness but it helps. Money has become one of the main thing in our modern life. Some people live their lives to earn money. They work hard trying to earn as much money as they can. Some of them become crazy about it and lose their dignity hunting money. They don’t appreciate such important things like family, friendship, love. Such people become greedy, they spend their lives in loneliness.
I don’t deny that money influences on our life a lot. As W.S. Maugham said: "Money is like the sixth feeling without which you cannot make a complete use of the other five." I quite agree. A person can’t be happy if he has no money to satisfy his natural needs. But I think that money should have a limit. A person shouldn’t have too much money. It begins destroying him and becomes his curse.
It is said that “The love of money is the root of all evil.” Yes, big sums of money really bring different problems because people feel very envious and jealous of other’s fortune. The majority of all the crimes are made because of money.
Money is not all-powerful. Humanity, dignity, intelligence, kindness and other good qualities of a person can’t be bought for money. We’ll never be able to buy pure love, real friendship, love and care of family. But life isn’t worth living without these things.
Teacher: Dear all, thank you for participation.
